Had your email address spoofed? Try this…

Permalink: http://paul.us2uk.eu/?x=entry:entry130201-022811

A few more of my friends have had their email addresses spoofed recently and there’s not really a lot you can do about it in most cases - except grin and bear it.

It’s up to each and every one of us to be on the lookout for suspicious emails and to try to keep all the nasties that spammers try to throw at us off our computers.

That’s easier said than done but there’s one thing you can do to ensure that your regular correspondents aren’t fooled into clicking on a link in an email which is purportedly from you.

In your email options somewhere you’ll see a section where you can add a signature to your outgoing messages - USE IT! Write a signature which says something like the following (or write your own) and soon all your friends and colleagues will come to tell the difference between an email which is genuinely from you, and one which has been sent out by some piece of scum who’s only intention is to make your life a little more miserable.

This is the signature I recommended to a friend - copy away!

This signature verifies that this email has been sent by the account owner (me). If you receive any emails from this address which do not have this signature line please treat the email as highly suspicious and - for your own sake - DO NOT click on any links which they may contain. I cannot be held responsible for your own negligence.

If you found anything on this site of use, interesting, or even mildly amusing then please consider dropping a few pennies in the jar to help us to take care of our disabled son who contracted encephalitis in 2007 at the age of 6 and who is now confined to a wheelchair. He is getting bigger as his mother and I get older, imagine that, please. Every penny we collect goes towards his upkeep, and towards his future care requirements.

Thank you.
